PK has the equipment and experience to install all types of permanent pavement markings both non durable (lasting 1 year or less) and durable (lasting 3 years or more). In selecting which type of material to use, an owner/agency must consider a number of factors such as: pavement type and condition, the desired frequency of restriping, the dangers of restriping, the level of desired reflectivity and the safety gained by wet reflectivity. These factors must be weighed against the cost of providing the longest lasting, most highly reflective marking that can be seen day and night when it’s dry or raining.

Thermoplastic is a granular material that becomes liquid when melted down to 400+ degrees. Once applied it hardens as it cools. Thermoplastic is available in different formulations. It can be formulated as a non durable material to be used as a long line on any pavement surface or as a durable material to be used on new asphalt as both a long line or special marking.

40 Mil Sprayable Thermoplastic is a non durable formulation that dries in less than one minute thus eliminating the use of cones to protect it while it dries. It can be used as a temporary or permanent marking on any pavement surface and requires a very short (one follow vehicle) convoy. It is applied at temperatures above 50 degrees between April 15 and November 15.

90 Mil Extrude Thermoplastic is a highly durable formulation which lasts 3-5 years as a long line or special marking on new asphalt. It is applied at temperatures above 50 degrees between May 1 and October 15.
